Welcome back to one and all! In todays post, we are going to be going over page design for the magazines that we usually see. As well as the nuances in design choices that there are for different types of magazines. So without further ado, come have a read!

An often underrated aspect of magazine design is font style. In a magazine, arguably the most important design aspect to choose is how you want to present the letter for your  audience to read. Whether it be in your narratives or the front cover, font is important. There are also styles that are appropriate for different kinds of magazines. Let’s take a look at Sports Illustrated magazine, for example. With covering topics such as the biggest players in the NBA or amazing games going on in the baseball league, it concerns them to have appropriate magazine design. Such flamboyant topics would need bold fonts and bubbly letters to represent the kind of stories that it covers. If the letters were to have a curvy and dainty font, it might take away from the aesthetic of it being a grand spectacle of stories that it covers. Now lets take a look at any magazine that that focuses on interior home design or furniture. In general, most of these kinds of magazines have very clean photos and great lighting of the photo they choose to include. With these kinds of photos, letters that are thinner and even a more cursive style would complement the style for magazine much more than if it were to cover sports.

Another important magazine design choice is the layout of the stories and photos. Usually with photos, many magazines approach the placement of it differently. If a magazine had publications that specified with cooking recipes and dishes, having images for every page that correlated with the respective recipe would benefit the overall magazine much better. However, if a magazine publication that focused on all things medical profession related were to approach its magazine design, using photos every page might not be the best choice design wise as the main objective of the magazine would be to inform the reader with a lot of detail about all things medical professions could provide.

Interviews are another important factor. When adding quotations to your stories,  knowing where to put them is very important. That’s why generally a good guideline to know is to not overdo it. If you add too much quotation remarks in your story, it can end up just looking like a printed interview rather than a story that can have all the perks and benefits of what a magazine could provide.

All in all, the design of a magazine is essential for the look and feel of the overall piece of work you will be reading. Not only knowing where and how you want to place the intricacies of your story, but also the minute details of what fonts to choose, what colors you want, the length of interviews, etc. There are also differences in ways that magazine publishers choose to approach their design as it can affect the overall feel of their respective publication. Well thats all for this one folks, stay tuned for the next one!
