Magazine House Style Types Pt 1

    Welcome one and all to this blog post, where today i will be going over magazine house style types! A magazine house style are the general conventions magazine publishers use for the utilization of their respective cover. This can include elements such as font and sizing, color, pictures used, the masthead, and several other elements. In todays blog and the next, we will be going more in depth about the elements used to create these magazine house style types. 

    The main image is a very crucial step into creating a magazine cover. It is the biggest and most potent picture that is shown in the cover. Depending on the subject of the stories being told, there are a wide variety to choose from. For example, Entertainment magazine loves using close up head shots or full body shots of pop culture figures in todays media. This is drastically different, however, from a magazine such as National Geographic. Instead of having a celebrity take a photoshoot to be on the front page cover, they would instead take beautiful cinematographic of the Amazon rainforest or the new subspecies of monkey previously unknown. This just shows how the main image is very important. 

    Another important element of the house style is the masthead. Often overlooked, the masthead is the visual of the publisher of the magazine shown in the front cover of the magazine. Many smaller aspects are utilized to create the masthead such as the font, color, graphics, and more. Many mastheads are placed in various places throughout the cover, however they are usually placed towards the top as that is where the human eye is more likely to gravitate towards.
