Production of Magazine

Hi all! Welcome back to another blog post where I will be explaining the production, or the process, of magazines. The process to produce magazines includes several steps that are carried out by all those who work towards the final product. We begin with the planning and preparation of the content.

Dates are established for when the magazine will reach the reader, and then the printer and circulation department provide deadlines. The stories within each issue are planned several months in advance; ideas ultimately come from the editors, staff is expected to submit ideas to the editor. Revisions are done when the magazine has undergone a final look; this is to ensure valuable information being given out by the magazine. Following fact and grammar checking, the magazine undergoes production, printing, and distribution. A map of each page is set up to understand the ratio of issue to advertisements within a magazine. The production manager oversees final preparations for the printer. They must be sure that all advertisements arrive on time and conforms to what is displayed in the issue. Before this is sent to the printer, the printer is set with scheduled press time, ordered paper, and made any other preparations possible. The publisher has final say for when the printer runs the press. This is the point where the entire publication is reviewed one last time for any errors. the production manager or art director may be present at the beginning of a press run for quality control purposes, this is called a press check. Once the magazine pages are printed, and dried, they are folded, trimmed, bound, and made ready for distribution.

Since the mid-twentieth century, the magazine production process has changed tremendously because of technological advances. Magazine staffs have been reduced as computer software has simplified tasks that once required specialized training. As technology has provided a faster, more efficient way of putting together a magazine, editorial and advertising deadlines have been pushed back. Several computer magazines have been successfully established, while other magazines have added new sections that relate their editorial focus to computers, such as guides to useful internet web-sites and reader emails. Thank you all for reading my post. I hope that you have gained some information on magazine production.
